Intersecting Struggles, Shared Futures: Advancing LGBTQI+ Rights Across Africa and South America
Monday, 8th of December 2025 | 10:00-11:30 EST, 16:00-17:30 CET, 20:30-22:00 IST
This gender cafe, organised by the SGP in collaboration with CCINDLE (Co-Creating Inclusive Intersectional Democratic Spaces Across Europe), will bring together human rights advocates, researchers, community organisers, and policy influencers to explore the diverse realities, challenges, and innovations shaping LGBTQI+ rights movements across both regions. It seeks to highlight how local activism, cross-regional solidarity, and inclusive policy frameworks can advance equality and social justice in contexts where discrimination and exclusion persist.
The cafe will be a panel discussion structured around successes and struggles - from moments of legislative victory and community resilience to ongoing threats and resistance. Through open exchange and shared learning, this session aims to highlight the interconnected struggles and successes of LGBTQI+ movements, amplifying stories of resilience and collective action across both regions.
We aim to centre voices from the Global South, focusing on intersectional experiences of gender, sexuality, race, and class - while also discussing sustainable strategies for protection, advocacy, and community empowerment.
